Overview

Bump is the Kitchen Display System (KDS) for Square. Bump delights customers by reducing errors, streamlining orders, and showing that you care about the environment! It takes less than a minute to create an account, sync with Square and start to manage orders. No credit card is needed to activate your account.

Prerequisites

  1. Hardware: Desktop, tablets such as iPad or Android based.

  2. Software: You should use Safari or Chrome browser, make sure you update your browser to the latest version available.

Getting Started With Bump Basic

Step 1. Create Account or Log In

1. Go to the Bump website

2. Connect Square: Click the "Continue With Square" button

3. Log in with your Square email and password.

4. Location: If you have multiple locations, select the location you are using your station in.

5. Station: If this is a new station -- name the station you are creating (e.g. expeditor, drinks, food). If this is an existing station -- select the station.

Your new Square orders will then start appearing in Bump automatically!

6. Routing: Now we'll configure your routing. Routing lets you send different categories or items to different stations. If you want all items to route to this station, keep "Route all items to this station" toggled on.

To route specific categories to this station, toggle on the categories.

To route specific items within a category to this station, select the + sign to the right of the category name. A list of items from that category will appear. Select the items you want to route to this station. In the example below, everything in the Wafels category will be routed this device. In the Ice Cream category only Vanilla and Chocolate Ice Cream will route to this station.

7. Save Bump: Save Bump to your device home screen so Bump will appear like an app icon on your device. The below video shows how to save Bump on an iPad. Instructions how to save Bump on any device: tablet, phone, or computer.

Step 2. Configure Your Bump Preferences

1. To configure your Preferences, click the Settings gear in the bottom right, then click Preferences in the top right.

2. Click "Update to latest version" to make sure your software is up to date.

3. Click "Send a test order". You can use this to practice the order workflow in the next step.

4. Optionally choose a different page layout.

5. Optionally enable sounds by clicking "Incoming Sound." Select the sound you wish to be played . If you don't hear the sound, make sure your tablet is not muted (and not in silent mode).

6. Click Back in the top left then Close to return to the main orders page.

Step 3. Optional: Configure Your Bump Theme

You can fully customize your Bump Theme if you want! For example, you can configure the background color, bump bar colors, recall button colors, padding around the items, number of rows, and number of columns. If you don't want to customize your theme, skip this step.

1. To configure your Theme, click the Settings gear in the bottom right, then click Theme in the top right.

2. Make any changes you'd like, then click Back to save your changes or Reset to restore the original theme. For properties that are colors, you can use this hexademical finder to find the hexadecimal code.

Step 4. Manage Orders

When an order arrives to Bump, you will see the order #, order duration, and itemization.

There are two ways to mark an order as done:

  • Method 1: Swipe down on the order until it says "Bump" at the bottom of the order. It will then be removed from the orders page and will move to the Recall page.

  • Method 2: Click an order to select it. Click Bump in the bottom right of the page to bump the order that is selected. It will then be removed from the orders page and will move to the Recall page.

To Recall an order, click the Recall button in the bottom right. Then select Recall next to the order.

To expand an order to view more details, click the order. Then click the magnifying glass in the bottom right. Tap the order to return to the normal view.
